About The Event
This three day, in-person, hands-on Cone 6 glaze testing workshop is led by renowned potter and expert glaze master John Britt. It is aimed at intermediate to advanced potters and will have a relaxed atmosphere of fun and learning guided by the participants' questions and interest.
The workshop is designed to:
- Show participants how to test a base recipe and get various colours (colour blending) as well as strength of colours (progression tests).
- Discuss clays, slips, cones, kilns, firing dynamics and principles and how to apply those principles to various firing cycles.
- Learn how and why each type of glaze works and how you can achieve the best results.
- Learn how to adjust your glazes and find new ones.
Dates and location
Friday October 21: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday October 22: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday October 23: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Nepean Visual Arts Centre is located at Entrance 3, 1701 Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa, ON. It is a City of Ottawa facility that is accessible and has free parking.

This workshop is open to all members of FUSION and/or the Ottawa Guild of Potters. Register for the 3-day workshop (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) or sign up for the just the Saturday talk.
3-DAY WORKSHOP: 25 spaces
Participants will work hands-on on Friday, preparing glaze tests, participate in the workshop and discussion on Saturday and will review and discuss glaze test results and next steps on Sunday with John.
COST: $425 plus HST (includes test tiles, glaze materials, coffee/tea and lunch on all 3 days)
